Touchdown. Grand slam. Hole-in-one the metaphors just keep coming.
According to the Web site paidContent.org, Brentwoods favorite sports information site Rivals.com has been bought for close to $100 million by Yahoo!, which was wanting to bolster its own Yahoo!Sports brand. Both companies announced the transaction Wednesday.
As part of the deal, Rivals.com CEO Shannon Terry will stay at the helm of Rivals, and the Web sites 85 employees should all be retained by Yahoo! as well.
Rivals.com has done bang-up business as of late. In 2006 the site saw more than 3.5 billion pageviews. That translates into some hefty revenue for Rivals.com, which has about 185,000 subscribers who pay about $100 annually to view the scouting site. Rivals.com reportedly became profitable during the last two years, after barely surviving the dot-com bust years ago.
