Vastland Cos., the property developer that has made its name focusing on residentlal and retail projects, has hired Ken Renner to oversee its commercial leasing efforts.

Renner, who was director of communication for Gov. Ned McWherter and a longtime exec at public relations firm Tom Jackson & Associates, will carry the title of vice president of commercial sales and leasing of Vastland Realty Group.

In that role, he will help market Vastland’s various Midtown projects — which include a planned 100,000-square-foot retail/office tower at Hayes Street and 18th Avenue — as well as developments in Cool Springs and Mt. Juliet.

Vastland owner Mack McClung said Renner “is the right person to give us … market presence and momentum in our growing commercial portfolio.”
