Under the category of Nashville keeping a headquarters in the county, Emdeon Business Services has leased 164,116 square feet at Donelson Corporate Centre to consolidate its headquarters operations.
This is one of the largest office leases in recent years and brings high-paying jobs into the Donelson area. The space is being designed to hold 820 people.
“It will help the Donelson community for years and years to come,” said Floyd Shechter, SmartSpace’s president.
Emdeon took over HCA’s office space that was emptied a year ago.
Donelson Corporate Centre is a former HCA hospital. Built in 1969, SmartSpace converted the hospital into office space in 1999.
Emdeon, a revenue-cycle management company in the healthcare industry, is spread among three locations around Davidson County. It has some space already in Donelson Corporate Centre. The company has space in One Century Place near the Nashville airport and Airways Plaza.
Emdeon’s history here in Nashville looks liked a spider web. Previously, the company has been named WebMD, Envoy and Healtheon.
The company is one of the largest healthcare operations in Nashville by revenue, last publicly reporting annual revenue of more than $700 million in 2006.
Until two years ago, Emdeon had been a unit of Emdeon Corp. based in New Jersey. General Atlantic, a Connecticut private equity firm, bought majority stake in the company two years ago for $1.2 billion.
Joel McAlister and Jim Smith, brokers with Colliers Turley Martin Tucker, represented Emdeon in the transaction.
