Palmer & Company promotes Hawkins
Alex S. Palmer & Company announces the promotion of Whitney Hawkins to property manager.
Hawkins’ primary responsibilities focus on the day-to-day operational functions of four Nashville-area Class-A office properties. Her responsibilities include maintaining consistent contact with the building tenants, coordinating with contract service providers and directing maintenance staff.
A member of the firm for more than five years, Hawkins also provides assistance to the financial services department of the company. She was previously with Southern Management of Chattanooga where she gained nine years of experience in office management and customer service.
‘Out & About’ names Leslie managing editor
Joey Leslie has been named managing editor of Out & About newspaper. He replaces Brent Meredith, who is leaving this full-time role with the GLBT newspaper to take a position with Vanderbilt’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development.
Leslie has won numerous awards from the Kentucky Press Association for business writing and social commentary. He has worked as an intern at The Cincinnati Post and the Appalachian News-Express.
Leslie obtained a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Western Kentucky University in May 2007. He began working with Out & About newspaper as a writer in August ‘07 and took over as advertising sales manager in September 2007.
Meredith will continue to work with O&A as a volunteer, in a new position as promotions director. In that role he will coordinate and oversee the many ticket giveaways and promotions that the newspaper is involved with.
Axis Accounting Systems names Lemon president
Nashville-based Axis Accounting Systems, LLC, provider of financial software and consulting services, recently announced that Greg Lemon has been named president of the company.
Lemon brings 15 years of business experience to the firm, including six years in public accounting and three years as controller for a private company. He earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville and an MBA from Middle Tennessee State University.
Lemon is a certified public accountant licensed to practice in Tennessee.
Aegis Sciences adds three to forensics lab
Aegis Sciences, an international forensic sciences laboratory, has hired Barry Campbell as human resource manager, Darcie Wallace-Duckworth as assistant director of training and Rebecca Heltsley as research scientist.
Campbell is responsible for the recruitment, retainment and development of Aegis Sciences employees. Previously, Campbell worked for Acxiom Corp. as an organizational development manager.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in human resource management from Trevecca Nazarene University, and a bachelor’s degree in public relations from Middle Tennessee State University.
As assistant director of training, Wallace-Duckworth is responsible for team member orientation, training and continuing education. She is charged with developing and improving each team members understanding of forensic analytical toxicology and quantitative chemical analysis.
Before joining Aegis Sciences, Wallace-Duckworth was a professor at Goucher College in Baltimore. She earned a Doctor of Arts degree in chemistry from Middle Tennessee State University and a master’s degree in education from Goucher.
In her role as research scientist, Heltsley is responsible for the research, development and analytical instrumentation in the laboratories. She earned a Ph.D. in environmental chemistry from North Carolina State University, and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology and environmental science from Western Kentucky University.

Gresham, Smith and Partners, a leading national architecture, engineering and interior design firm, announces the following new associates, senior associates and owners in the firm’s Nashville headquarters office:
Patrick G. Gilbert, AIA, has been named an owner. Gilbert, a senior architect and principal in the Corporate + Urban Design group, has more than 20 years of experience. His expertise is in the design of mixed-use urban projects.
Russell A. Jones has been named an owner. Jones is a CADD manager in the corporate services group and has been with GS&P for more than 25 years.
Marc A. Sauvé, MBA, has been named an owner. Sauvé is a senior healthcare strategist in the healthcare design group and has more than 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry.
Alan Aront, P.E., has been named a senior associate. Aront serves as division vice president for Water Services, Industrial and Environmental Compliance and has more than 34 years of experience providing program and construction management services on major infrastructure improvements programs.
Eric D. Bearden, AIA, has been named a senior associate. Bearden is a senior architect in the Corporate + Urban Design studio and has been with GS&P for 10 years.
Lyle D. Fuson, P.E., CSI, CDT, has been named a senior associate. Fuson is a senior structural engineer in the ACE division focusing on healthcare projects.
Jon D. Long, P.E., has been named a senior associate. Long is a senior electrical engineer in the ACE division focusing on healthcare projects.
William L. Moore Jr. , P.E., has been named a senior associate. Moore is senior vice president for transportation and served a 34-year tenure at the Tennessee Department of Transportation prior to joining GS&P.
Jeff Roberts, AIA, has been named a senior associate. Roberts is a senior architect in the healthcare design studio and has been with GS&P for almost eight years.
Margaret J. Slater, AICP, has been named a senior associate. Slater is a senior transportation planner with extensive experience in transportation planning, NEPA documentation and historic preservation services.
Steven J. Snoddy, ASLA, has been named a senior associate. Snoddy is a senior landscape architect in the land planning and design group and has been with GS&P for 16 years.
Mark D. Spalding, P.E., has been named a senior associate. Spalding is a senior civil engineer in the Land Planning and Design group.
WireMasters promotes Love to operations specialist
Company officials at WireMasters, one of the United States’ leading distributors of military specification wire and cable, announced that Drew Love has been promoted to operations specialist.
Love began his career at WireMasters in 2003 as a warehouse worker after graduating high school at Columbia Academy. He continued to work at WireMasters while attending college and became inventory control manager last year upon graduation.
He holds a bachelor’s degree from Lipscomb University with a double major in management and marketing.
His new duties include overseeing inventory control, training warehouse workers and providing backup and assistance to the operations manager and warehouse manager.
Symbion appoints and promotes staff

Dawn Ebel has been promoted to RMS supervisor. She was previously an accounts receivable specialist.
Otto Griffin was promoted to vice president of materials management. He was previously assistant vice president of materials management.
Justin McCann, formerly a regional business office director, has been promoted to assistant vice president of financial operations for the southeast region.
Rick Payne, who previously served as assistant vice president of information technology, has been promoted to vice president of information technology.
Stephanie Plummer has been promoted to assistant vice president of financial operations for the southeast region. She was previously a regional business office director.
Jim Ray has been promoted to regional vice president of operations for the Midwest region. He previously served as administrator of the company’s Timberlake and St. Louis Spine Surgery Centers.

Suzanne Davis joins the company as an accountant and analyst. She previously worked with Vanderbilt University.
