If you are frustrated or displeased with the educational programs in the Nashville area or just want to help, there is a unique opportunity to become directly involved. Pencil Foundation is a nonprofit organization that encourages and helps citizens to become participants in supporting Metropolitan Public Schools.

Since 1982, Pencil has offered an array of programs for individual volunteers or businesses to choose from. Its specific goals are to encourage academic achievement, provide a safety net for at-risk youth, promote career success, provide professional development opportunities for educators and to build positive relationships between children and caring adults, according to Connie Williams, executive director of Pencil.
