BABC names two partners
Bradley Arant Boult Cummings has added two local attorneys to its partner ranks, effective Jan. 1.
Matthew Mattingly (on the right in photo linked here), counsels clients on matters involving commercial real estate, commercial lending transactions and general business issues. He focuses his practice on real estate transactions, with an emphasis on real estate acquisition and development and commercial leases. He is a 2005 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Law.
David Stempel advises companies on corporate governance issues and mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures as well as private equity and venture capital investments. He also has worked on debt and equity restructurings, leveraged buyouts and other transactions in multiple industries. Stempel earned his law degree in 2005 from the University of Tennessee College of Law.

Bradley Arant Boult Cummings is home to more than 100 attorneys at its Music Row Roundabout offices. It has more than 440 attorneys in seven offices from Washington to Jackson, Miss.
TriStar has cardiac services leader
HCA Holdings' TriStar Health system has recruited one of the executives who helped build Saint Thomas Health Services' regional heart care network to lead its cardiac services team.
Ranee Curtis will start her tenure as TriStar's administrator of cardiovascular services on Jan. 14. Curtis had spent more than six years at Saint Thomas, where she was executive director of Regional Network Services and helped oversee $2 million in federal grants. She has more than 27 years of cardiac and flight nursing experience.
In her new role, Curtis will be responsible for the overall strategic direction for cardiac services throughout the 18-hospital TriStar Health system. She will also design, plan and implement cardiovascular programs in markets from South Central Kentucky to North Georgia.
“Ranee is a proven administrator, and her extensive contributions have earned the respect of fellow colleagues, physicians and associates throughout the Middle Tennessee healthcare market,” said Tim Scarvey, senior vice president of strategic planning and business development at TriStar. “Ranee’s tremendous experience and knowledge of the cardiovascular field are essential to the ongoing growth, development and expansion of the division’s cardiac service line.”
BWS&C hires controls manager
Engineering firm Barge Waggoner Sumner & Cannon has hired Mark Goldstein as manager for controls and automation design in the company's industrial and buildings services business unit.
Goldstein, who has more than three decades of experience in the industry, will lead Barge Waggoner's greater push into automating its design processes.
Before joining Barge Waggoner, Goldstein was a senior instrumentation and controls engineer at the downtown office of Gresham Smith and Partners.
Consensus Point hires IBM veteran to lead sales
Prediction market developer Consensus Point has hired Edward Gil to be its vice president of sales and marketing.
Gil come to Consensus Point with more than 30 years of experience in sales, marketing and development of analytics and business intelligence tools. Most recently, he worked at IBM, where he led the company’s business analytics push into the media and entertainment sectors.
Before that, he was senior strategist at Teradata and consulted for Aster Data, helping to launch its analytics appliance for media clients. Gil also has sold software for SAS Institute and co-founded Sagemetrics, a business intelligence and data mining venture working with large media companies.
“Ed’s business intelligence and data warehousing experience and expertise will help Consensus Point capitalize on the exciting opportunities for prediction markets,” said Linda Rebrovick, Consensus Point’s CEO. “His insight and leadership positions at IBM, SAS, and Teradata enable us to expand our business with market research, expert network and consulting organizations working across multiple industries.”
Butler Snow division adds E&Y manager
The consulting and transaction advisory subsidiary of law firm Butler Snow O’Mara Stevens & Cannada has recruited from the local Ernst & Young office Wesley Roberts, a veteran of the M&A and assurance markets.
Roberts’ new title at Butler Snow Advisory Services is vice president of capital markets. At Ernst & Young, he was a manager in the transaction advisory services department, where he managed and took part in financial due diligence engagements, many of them involving acquisitions by private-equity groups and strategic corporate buyers.
“Wesley’s transaction advisory experience at Ernst & Young makes him a perfect fit for our growing company,” said Matt Thornton, president and CEO of Butler Snow Advisory Services. “We are particularly encouraged to have him in Nashville, where we see exceptional financial and business opportunities.”
Butler Snow made a big splash in Nashville last summer when it lured about 40 attorneys from the downtown office of Miller & Martin. Since then, the firm has committed to moving its area team to The Pinnacle at Symphony Place tower. The firm’s advisory services unit has offices in Jackson, Miss., and Memphis as well as Nashville and is home to about a dozen professionals.
Roberts earned both his bachelor of business administration and master of accountancy degrees from the University of Tennessee. He is also a CPA.
