Tennessean Media Group hires Allen as marketing VP
The Tennessean Media Group has hired Kurt Allen as vice president of marketing and strategy.
His appointment will be effective July 15, according to a Tennessean story.
Allen, who was previously the vice president of marketing and strategy at the Des Moines Register, will be responsible for all areas of The Tennessean’s marketing and strategy, including marketing programs, external and internal communications, digital brand strategy, business partnerships, strategic planning, community events and public relations.
In addition, Allen will serve as the central group marketing director for Gannett Company US Community Publishing, The Tennessean reports.
“I’m thrilled to bring Kurt’s talent and expertise to The Tennessean Media Group while continuing to leverage his strategic leadership skills across the newly formed Central Group,” Laura Hollingsworth, president and publisher of The Tennessean Media Group, is quoted in The Tennessean article.
Prior to joining Gannett, Allen held several senior executive leadership positions with Fortune 500 and FTSE 100 companies, both in the U.S. and in international markets.
Rutherford Chamber names Duffield VP
The Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce has named Beth Duffield as vice president of workforce development, effective July 22.
Duffield, who currently serves as development director for the Middle Tennessee State University College of Liberal Arts, will be responsible for continuing to expand and implement the chamber’s regional workforce development strategy.
“Beth, with her 20-plus years of experience in workforce development, marketing, public relations and non-profit fundraising, will be an incredible asset to our team,” Paul Latture, Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce president, said in a release. “We are thrilled for her to continue to develop the workforce efforts for our region.”
Prior to her stay at MTSU, Duffield worked as director of alumni relations and events for Columbia State Community College.
Duffield earned a master’s degree in organizational management from Trevecca Nazarene University and a bachelor’s degree in liberal arts from Ambassador University in Pasadena, Calif.
TNA adds Gaburick
TNA Entertainment, the downtown-based operator of a professional wrestling circuit, has recruited a veteran television show producer from its main rival, World Wrestling Entertainment.
John Gaburick has been named executive vice president of television production at TNA Entertainment, effective immediately. He had spent 13 years at WWE, where he served as VP of television production and will report to TNA President Dixie Carter. Before that, he worked for 10 years as operations manager at National Business Archives in Maryland.
“As TNA evolves, John’s award-winning creative vision and production expertise coupled with his sports and entertainment industry business savvy make him the perfect person to push us in new directions,” said Carter. “He is a gifted and innovative storyteller, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
In his new role — for which he and his family will relocate to Nashville — Gaburick will oversee management and production of TNA Entertainment television including LIVE IMPACT Wrestling, marketing and advertising production, special projects and digital assets.
“I’ve always admired Dixie Carter and TNA as a uniquely dynamic and growing organization,” Gaburick said. “This opportunity marks an exciting new challenge for me, and I am honored to join the team.”
Centerstone receives commendation
Nashville-based Centerstone Research Institute, a not-for-profit focused on improving behavioral health care through research and information technology, has received exemplary commendation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities international because of its utilization of Enlighten Analytics, a business intelligence tool.

Kennon | Calhoun Workshop, formed six months ago, has moved into new office space located at 700 Melpark, in Melrose.
James Kennon and John Calhoun are partners at the architecture and design company.
Concept Technology adds pair
Local IT service provider Concept Technology, Inc. has added Carter Glascock as IT support analyst and Brandon Freeman as field engineer.
Since 2008, Freeman worked as a systems administrator and senior regional technical analyst for ReMedPar, which was bought by Aramark Healthcare Technologies in 2011. While at ReMedPar, he administered hardware, software and networking projects. He also previously worked as help desk support for Barafree Web Design in Ashland City, Tenn.
Freeman studied information technology at Nashville State Community College, English at Austin Peay State University, and biology at Tennessee Wesleyan College and Maryville College
Glascock earned professional certifications in 3D modeling and interactive media from the Center of Digital Imaging Arts at Boston University. He received his bachelor’s degree in English literature and French from the University of Maryland.
FirstBank adds Hunter
Elaine Hunter has joined FirstBank as a financial services representative.
Hunter will be located in the bank’s downtown Nashville branch.
FirstBank is the third largest Tennessee-based bank, with 54 locations across the Southeast. The bank, headquartered in Lexington, Tenn., serves every major metropolitan market in the state and has more than $2 billion in total assets.
Warner Music promotes Williams
Warner Music Nashville has promoted Ken Williams to senior vice president of finance from vice president, a post he had held since 2010.
In his new position, Williams will oversee all financial operations for Warner Music Group’s country and Christian divisions, which include Atlantic, Elektra, Warner Bros., LoudMouth and Word Entertainment. He will continue to report to John Esposito, president and CEO of Warner Nashville.
Williams is a 15-year veteran of the Christian music industry. He began his career in the credit services division of Word Entertainment and held various other positions before being named VP of finance three years ago.
“Ken is a brilliant and essential part of our family,” Esposito said. “Having spent the better part of two decades with Warner Music Nashville, he has a deep understanding of our company and the industry. Ken’s promotion is well-deserved and I’m very happy to report this great news.”
First Acceptance names CFO
Auto insurer First Acceptance has named as its new CFO a top executive from a division of Nationwide Insurance.
Brent Gay, who will start his new job July 22, will serve as the Green Hills-based company's principal financial and accounting officer and oversee its finance, treasury, planning, actuarial and product development functions. He comes to First Acceptance after working as CFO of Titan Insurance, the non-standard automobile insurance unit of Nationwide, since December 2011. He joined Nationwide in 2006 after spending seven years in finance leadership roles at General Motors.
"Brent joins First Acceptance at an exciting time in its history," said First Acceptance President Joe Borbely. "The Company continues to focus on developing and strengthening its capabilities across the organization. We are confident that Brent's leadership will advance the company and its goals."
Gay will fill the role previously held by John Barnett, who left the company in late February. He has an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree in international business and economics from Ohio Northern University.
