Otter’s inks first franchise deal

Otter’s Chicken Tenders will open a franchise restaurant in Murfreesboro this December.

The 2,652-square-foot restaurant will be located at the Gateway Corner Shopping Center and will be the company’s fourth in Middle Tennessee. Local attorneys Beau and Lauren Moss will operate the location, which will be near the still-under-construction new Middle Tennessee Medical Center.

Talbott Ottinger, Otter’s founder, says the Murfreesboro expansion is part of a wider effort to spread his restaurant concept through the region and beyond.

“Otter’s has proven its ability to compete with national brands and we feel that we have been able to differentiate ourselves from other chicken concepts,” Ottinger said. “This first franchise agreement validates our dedication to creating and refining the Otter’s brand.”

The Nashville-based company also has a restaurant opening in East Nashville’s 5th & Main development later this summer, adding to its existing locations in Cool Springs and Music Row.

McDougal's = Best chicken tender shack in Nashville.

Good food does not equal a good franchise (I love their tenders). I bet they spent $50K on lawyers getting their paperwork in order to sell franchises (a UFOC), when they could have entered into simple partnerships to open these new places. Hope they do well, but I've seen businesses chase the brass franchise ring again and again.

They have the best food for what type they serve in town. Great atmosphere. They will do well in Murfreesboro. Booming area on that Medical Center Parkway. I am fairly certain that a few of the owners is are actual lawyers so I doubt they spent 50k on the UFOC.

Otter's off Music Row was one of my favorite places to go (still is) although I prefer McDougal's in Cool Springs for the following reasons: 1) better chicken 2) unlimited sauces, and there are a few to pick from...not just their "secret sauce" 3) free ice cream 4) very nice deck for outdoor eating.I think Otter's still has a way to go. The strip-mall feel doesn't go over very well in Cool Springs.
