Agency gets reprieve

The Tennessee Human Rights Commission has earned a three-year reauthorization after Executive Director Amber Gooding devised a performance plan that saved the commission from termination after repeated negative performance audits.

The THRC is the state agency created to protect citizens from housing or employment discrimination based on race, color, gender, creed, sex, age, nationality, or religion.

In recent audits the commission was cited for allowing cases to age excessively, in some cases taking more than 500 days to close, as well as lax attendance at meetings and poor management practices.
