Staff reports

An Australian chef who accused Belle Meade Country Club of discrimination based on his nationality reached a settlement agreement with the guarded club last week, according to court filings.

Both parties settled the case before Magistrate Judge Joe Brown in the U.S. District Court of Middle Tennessee on April 11. The settlement terms are confidential.

Richard Jones, who started working at Belle Meade Country Club in 2010, filed a lawsuit in 2011 claiming an executive sous chef called him a “Fosters-swilling Aussie bastard,” and referred to Australians as unrefined and undeveloped.

Jones also claimed he was fired by the club because of the executive sous chef's treatment.

This is a defining case for two things. The first being that you can sue for anything. The second is that there are too many lawyers.

In any society in the world other than this one this case would have been thrown out by a judge as being without merit.

"...the guarded club..." - is that to keep them in or us out? ;)

This goes to the Australian chef. YOU BETTER WORK. Hit them bigots where it really hurts, in their pockets. I hope the chef has more money than the bigots now. I'm so tired of these racist SOB's thinking they are better than other people. I LOVE IT. WORK MR. AUSTRALIAN CHEF. WORK B!TC_.

This sort of trivial, barely grounded lawsuit would be a tragedy were it not for the target.

That the BMCC is being sued, makes it a farce.

It appears to me that an organization like BMCC needs to be extremely guarded due to crazy issues like they're going through with this guy. And then you have a ridiculous internet poster like NewYorker 1 throwing gasoline on the fire, calling people bigots, when the chef that supposedly called him that isn't even a member of the club but a simple employee. I'll never be a member of a club like BM but can sure see a shake down in this - I hope he got $5 and a pat on the back. What a cry baby.

I hope he got $50 Million from the settlement.

I hope he got an enema to go with his settlement.
