Tonight is a homecoming of sorts for Gary and Kim Van Atta.

The husband-wife co-coaching duo at Tennessee-Martin (UTM) returns to the midstate to face the Belmont University Lady Bruins at 7:15 p.m. at Striplin Gymnasium.

Gary Van Atta first made his mark in the midstate area as a player at Volunteer State Community College and later at Trevecca, where he was a co-captain as a senior. His college coach at Trevecca was Ron Bargatze, who is now director of the Belmont Athletic Association.

Van Atta began his coaching career at Gallatin High School where he spent four seasons, which were highlighted by a perfect 34-0 state championship season in 1987.

Wife Kim, who shares the coaching duties with Gary for the UTM Skyhawk women, was a two-time NAIA All-American at David Lipscomb. The former Kim Satterfield served as her husband
