Body found on downtown park bench

Metro Police say a homeless man was found shot to death on a park bench at the intersection of Fifth Avenue and Church Street.

A police officer on routine patrol at 7 a.m. found the 46-year-old homeless shot in the head.

The man has been identified, but his identity is not being released until next of kin is notified.

The intersection of Fifth and Church is closed while police investigate.

Police are looking at surveillance footage from the area in an effort to determine what happened in the incident.
