The new BP station, called BP Connect, at the I-40 exit on Old Hickory Boulevard in Bellevue is the first station in Tennessee to collect solar power.

The surplus electricity produced at the station will be donated to the NES Project Help program, according to Greg Sotka, director of company operations.

Project Help allows business owners and individual citizens to add an extra dollar to their electric bills each month, said NES spokesperson Teresa Corlew. The extra revenue is set aside to cover electric bills of families with an emergency need.

Corlew said NES would meet with BP by the end of June to discuss details of the company
