Tennessee colleges and universities are opening their doors to students who were enrolled in institutions shut down by Hurricane Katrina.
Governor Phil Bredesen announced today that affected students can forgo the admissions process in order to continue their education in Tennessee while the Gulf area recuperates.
University of Memphis President Dr. Shirley Raines presented the idea after the university was inundated with calls from parents and students affected by the storm, according to Tennessee Higher Education Commission Executive Director Dr. Rich Rhoda.
Rhoda said the decision was made to offer the invitation and figure out many of the logistics later.
