Gov. Phil Bredesen today called an anti-Sen. Barack Obama press release from the Tennessee Republican Party “offensive” and said it showed “prejudice.”
The Tennessee GOP had issued a press release Monday entitled “Anti-Semites for Obama” and had used the Illinois Democrat’s middle name of Hussein in describing him.
After Sen. Lamar Alexander and reportedly the Republican National Committee scolded the Tennessee Republican Party Wednesday, the state GOP removed “Hussein” from the press release as well as a picture of Obama in traditional Somali garb.
Today, in impromptu remarks to reporters, Bredesen said he was “very offended” by the press release and was “glad the Republicans pulled them up short on it.”
“I think a lot of people, Democrats, Republicans, Independents, were offended by it,” Bredesen said to reporters. “And I think that's what prejudice is about, ya know, trying to assign characteristics to people based on statements or signs or something like that. And that’s what they were doing.”
Tennessee Republican Party Chairwoman Robin Smith has said that the purpose of the press release was to question Obama’s support of Israel after he was endorsed by Louis Farrakhan, the longtime leader of the Nation of Islam who has made anti-Semitic remarks in the past.

Nice try, Phil, but about the bunker. Have you decided to help those Tennesseans who were affected by the recent tornadoes instead of proceeding with the construction of that abhorrent ‘Bodacious Bredesen Bunker’?
My issue with Ms Robin Smith and the press release from the Tennessee Republican Party is if they were not unified behind it they should not have issued it. However, if they were unified, then they should stand behind it and tell Whistle britches Bredesen to buzz off.
Speaking of bunker, check out this video of one of the local nimby housewives going hysterical over the bunker, that is hilarious. And as for the emotional damage the bunker blasting is doing to her cats, give me a break lady. http://blogs.nashvillescene.com/pitw/Check out coming unglued on curtiswood lane.
I think it's kind of sad, yet also hilarious, that the GOP functionaries using the "Anti-Semite" spin machine against Obama fail to realize that his first name, Barack, is of Hebrew origin. Both Barack and Hussein are Semitic names; one Hebrew, the other Muslim.Perhaps when this is realized, we can concentrate on the real issues that are paramount to our nation's welfare--Obama's disdain of wearing that American flag lapel pin all the time and that he refuses to put his hand over his heart during the National Anthem. Gee, when I went to public school I was taught that you were supposed to do the hand gesture mainly for the Pledge of Allegiance, not the Anthem. I guess my teachers must also have been Commies or terrorist sympathisers too!
Barack Obama was originally named “Baraka.” It is not an African name. It's an Arabic word meaning “blessed” and comes directly from the Koran.BTW, Obama lied about his father's religious denomination during the DNC Convention in 2004. He said his father was a non-practicing Christian. Let's see how the LIBERAL media uncovers this lie, as well, but don't hold your breath.
Waaaaa!! Liberal media....waaaa!!Some conservatives are such crybabies.
Its sad that the GOP must resort to racial scare tactics because they don't have solutions to the domestic and foreign policy problems that their party has created. Just as they did during the Ford campaign, they can be expected to rally their reactionary troops by hinting to right wing constituents that the founding fathers did not intend for Black people to be treated as human citizens, no matter how intelligent, articulate or qualified they may be. Unfortunately they have many vehicles through which to relay this message, such as the Tennessean which never fails to rally the troops on the Sunday before a scheduled election, with a headliner reminding constituents that a candidate is Black and querying whether the confederate south is ready for such a "change".

They don't call the Republican Party the "Stupid Party" without good cause. Now the SP/GOP is giving us their fair-haired choice for president: Hanoi Johnny McAmnesty! Kinda looks like they want the other guys to win, don't ya think?A Reagan Republican since 1966 (but, definately not a friend to the RINO).
Ditto Tasha join me in hunting for a viable third party candidate (Michael savage,Newt Gingrich)We have to save the party from it's self.
