Situated in the heart of one of the most economically depressed areas of town, the Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Community Development Corporation is doing its part to enhance the lives of its neighbors.

Naming affordable housing as one of its goals, the organization plans to build houses throughout North Nashville to be sold at low cost to low-income families. The corporation began construction last week on the first two of five houses it plans to build for its first affordable-housing project.

In partnership with Capital Bank & Trust of Nashville and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Cincinnati, the organization received $275,000 to begin construction. An additional $30,000 in HOME funds was awarded to the organization from the Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency. MDHA also gave the corporation two lots on which to build the first two houses.
