Briley Parkway access ramps from I-40 will displace families

Improvements designed to provide better access to the Briley Parkway from Interstate 40 in West Nashville will force the relocation of approximately 70 families whose homes stand in the way of progress. Construction is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2002 and will last two or three years.

Four fly-over ramps will be constructed to direct I-40 traffic smoothly onto Briley. Currently, access to Briley Parkway goes through the Robertson/Urban-dale avenues intersection with White Bridge Road. Drivers must travel a short extension of roadway north of I-40 that begins as White Bridge Road but changes to the Briley.

According to Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) spokesperson Louanne Grandinetti, the cost of the project is estimated at between $40-$45 million.
