Former Congressman and Nashville mayoral candidate Bob Clement joined a Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm today.

Clement will be joining The Livingston Group, originally formed in 1999.

“Bob Clement is a long-time friend from our days of service in the Congress,” said Bob Livingston, the firm’s founder and CEO, in a statement. “He was a very effective legislator, who reached across the aisle to craft good policies and enact strong laws. I admire him greatly and look forward to working with him again. He is a welcome addition to The Livingston Group and with his help, we can accomplish great things for Tennessee.”

According to a press release, Clement will serve as a consultant on “energy and environment; education and non-profits; transportation, shipbuilding and shipping; and health care and pharmaceuticals.”

“I respect Bob Livingston, based on my years of experience working with him,” Clement said in a statement. “I’m excited to be affiliated with an outstanding government affairs organization known for working with both political parties.”

Maybe he can lobby for Nashville to host the Olympics in 2040 (or whatever year he was shooting for during his last campaign.)

Now, I get it. Being a Congressperson is the prerequisite to becoming a Lobbyist. Congress is merely the minor league training ground. H’mmm, I think that I am going to run for Congress… It sure beats working for a living.

Of course, plants. It's the domain of people who rationalize having to leave their government jobs paying $160,000 a year in order to make "real money

Bob Livingston, the CEO of this consulting firm, was the Speaker of the House after Newt Gingrich resigned after "marital indiscretions" were revealed. It wasn't long after Livingston took this job that we learned the he too was cheating on his wife at night while persecuting Bill Clinton in the Lewinsky scandal by day.I wonder if Bob Clement - who supported Hillary Clinton - is even aware that he's just gone to work for a man who tried to impeach Clinton.

Would've been nice for John Rodgers to do his homework instead of re-hashing a press release. Oh wait - he DOES do his homework when it's time to trash a Democrat!

Exactly, Plants. This behavior makes one feel utterly scummy. Look at the way Trent Lott just played the people of Mississippi. That Bob Clement has become a lobbyist demonstrates that brains are not a requirement compared to whom you know.
