An old staple of Whites Creek football is its rock-ribbed defense.

And the Cobras took a sizeable page out of that old playbook while finishing up one of their best regular seasons in years, blanking old rival Maplewood 21-0 last Friday.

The win clinched the Cobras the No. 2 spot in Region 5-4A and guaranteed a home playoff game. Whites Creek (9-1, 6-1) hosts Clarksville in the first round Friday night. The Cobras tied Hillsboro for first, but lost to the Burros in Week 6. Maplewood (7-3, 5-2), making its first playoff trip since 1998, travels to Kenwood.
