Convicted felon Erick Shoemake, 25, who was being sought in two Nashville robberies — including one in which he allegedly fired shots at an off-duty officer — is in custody in Bowling Green, Ky.
Shoemake was identified as the man who on May 24 entered a home on Gina Brooke Drive and allegedly robbed four persons at gunpoint before driving off with an accomplice.
In the second robbery on June 3, Shoemake is accused of grabbing a teenager’s backpack in the parking lot of the Carmike Bellevue 8 movie theatre at 120 Belle Forest Circle. When the victim resisted, Shoemake allegedly fired one shot. The teen fled on foot and Shoemake drove off in a gold Jeep Cherokee.
An off-duty Metro officer was at a nearby car wash, heard the shot, and saw the suspect speeding through the parking lot. The officer attempted to follow the Jeep in his personal vehicle until the suspect fired several shots toward him.
The teen victim later positively identified Shoemake as the man who robbed him.
Arrest warrants charging five counts of aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated assault against a police officer, and a Crooks with Guns law violation have been issued against Shoemake. He has previous convictions for aggravated burglary and burglary of a motor vehicle.
Shoemake is expected to be extradited to Nashville in the next several days.
Detectives are concerned that Shoemake may have been involved in other similar crimes and are urging potential victims to contact the Emergency Communications Center at 862-8600 or Crime Stoppers at 74-CRIME.
