Councilwoman hit with another ethics complaint

Monday, August 31, 2009 at 10:59pm

A complaint against District 5 Metro Councilwoman Pam Murray alleging a violation of the ethical standards of conduct was filed with the Metro Clerk on Monday.

The complaint claims that Murray violated ethical standards when she used Metro Council resources to mail out a flier concerning a community meeting, which took place at the Metro Police East Precinct Saturday.

The front of the flier merely included information about the community breakfast. However, the back of the flier addressed the public effort to recall Murray and force her out of office, according to the complaint.

Metro Code states that employees may not use for personal purposes the “services or funds” of Metro government. The flier was sent to East Nashville residents. According to the Metro charter, the term ‘employee’ includes elected officials including members of Metro Council.

The complaint will be forwarded to the Metro Board of Ethical Conduct and the Metro Department of Law. If the Department of Law determines the complaint warrants a hearing, then the matter will be considered by the ethics board.

Murray did not return calls for comment.

She also has a pending complaint filed with the state ethics commission, alleging she lied on her 2008 and 2009 ethics disclosure forms. Murray listed herself as self-employed, when in fact she works as a social worker at a Detroit methadone clinic. Murray amended the disclosure forms after the complaint was filed.

A recall was started against Murray two weeks ago. It will require about 900 signatures from District 5 residents to force the recall election.

Everything Pam Murray does is unethical and always has been. Glad the watch dogs are surfacing.

She is probably a member of the NAACP. They are all unethical and just like leeches.

"Murray did not return calls" - that's the entire story of her 6 year's in Metro Council

If the voters in this district can't find the sense to vote her out maybe we should break up this district and parcel it out to adjacent districts with a bit more sense. We have too many districts now as it is.

Really? Dr King was unethical? What a boneheaded comment--turn off Drug Limbaugh.

Kosh, if you have not noticed, Dr. King is dead and so I think that bfra is speaking about "current" alive members. Also, when the flyers are mailed out, they are sent out by workers at the Metro Council. Maybe they didn't know the "rules" and placed the information on the back of the flyer. Maybe it was a mistake. But I do agree that it's unethical for her to use public funds to promote her agenda or her defense.

Do you know members personally that you can assert that they are ALL unethical? Do you even know one member?

They're even scratching their heads in Michigan...

bfra,
Who's the "they?" Are you meaning African-Americans? Sure reads like you are. Which makes you a racist. Bet you'll deny it. Most racists do.

YEAH!!! At last everyone is seeing how she truly operates. We East Nashvillians may actually be able to get our voice heard. Please keep the efforts going everyone.

bfra and you are A$$-u-ming again. Maybe the "they" is the people who are members who are unethical - and no race selection is intended because there are unethical people in ALL races. You are so quick to say the word "racist" which implies to me that you are judgmental and condscending. So what race does that make you - plastic? Your interpretation of everything comes down to black and white. Duh! I'd say you're the color selector, not everyone else. Everyone else is talking issue and you're putting a color on it. Lighten up! no pun intended.

Most of the people discussing the issue are talking about her behavior, not her skin color.

Sidney, everyone knows good and well that the majority of members of the NAACP are African-Americans, so be Dr. King dead or alive, or be that bfra is referring to past or current members of the NAACP, the words used were, "They are all unethical and just like leeches." The 'they" was referring to members of the NAACP, which again, is majority African-American. So, yes, to make such a blanket, generalized statement directed primarily to a race of people is indeed racist. I didn't stop the talk about Ms. Murray's ethics, I simply replied to the racist statement made by bfraAgain, racist rarely see themselves as such. Makes you go, 'hmmmmmmm?'

Actually Murray is the one throws race up every chance she gets. The latest example is from the paper pride publishing group . net

Carpet (bagger) bugs invade Metro District 5

There has been an infestation of Carpet (bagger) bugs (CBB) in the 5th Council District. This infestation was spotted by Councilor Pam Murray who mentioned that these bugs may be “coming from the rotting remains of opponents she defeated in the last two Council elections.”

The term carpetbaggers was used to describe the white northern Republican politicians who came South, arriving with their travel carpetbags.

She has also referred to "white" people as them people on several occasions at council meetings. She definitely lacks any sort of class.
