Court of Appeals Judge Cain dies of cancer

Court of Appeals Judge William B. Cain of Columbia has died of cancer.

He was 75 years old.

Cain served on the Court of Appeals for the middle section of the state out of Nashville. Former Gov. Don Sundquist appointed him to the post in April 1998, he won reelection in Aug. 1998, and was reelected in 2006.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Sue, his two children, Elizabeth Cain Moore and William Bryan Cain, Jr., and his four grandchildren.

Cain is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University and received his law degree from Cumberland University School of Law.

Prior to being appointed to the Court of Appeals, Cain served as circuit court judge for the 22nd Judicial District.

Judge Cain was a fine jurist and he possessed a great sense of humor. He will be missed.

Judge Cain was a fine man and pratical lawyer whose opinions balanced scholarship and common sense. We could use more like him.
