A Republican primary is officially set to precede Davidson County’s Juvenile Court Clerk general election, but it’s still unclear whether District 22 Metro Councilman Eric Crafton plans to throw his hat in the ring.
Davidson County Republican Party leaders filed paperwork this week to hold a Republican primary for the highly coveted seat held by current clerk Vic Lineweaver, who attracted a field of competitors after media reports last year revealed he spent considerable time at his Bellevue house during works hours.
So far, eight candidates — including Lineweaver — have picked up qualifying papers to run as Democrats. Another candidate is running as an independent. But until this week, a Republican primary had not even been established.
While no one has picked up papers to qualify as a Republican, some observers have speculated the primary may be an opening for Crafton, the Bellevue-area representative known for a conservative streak.
When contacted by The City Paper, Crafton neither confirmed nor denied plans to enter the race.
“I don’t know,” Crafton said. “It’s an interesting race. But, I haven’t announced anything. I haven’t done anything with the Republican Party, but I guess they’re having a primary.”
On the Democratic side, Lineweaver is facing opposition from court officer David Smith, school board member Karen Johnson, District 29 Metro Councilwoman Vivian Wilhoite, as well as Jeff Brousal, Howard E. Jones Jr., Jeff Crum and Patricia Courts.
The one independent candidate is James Baxter.
The Democratic and Republican primaries are slated for May 4. The general election takes place Aug. 5. All candidates must turn in qualifying papers to the Davidson County Election Commission by Feb. 18.
Crafton needs to run against dizzy dean.
Looks like every single opponent of the Music City Center is just playing politics. Apeing for the cameras to build name recognition to run for higher office.

What should we expect from a bunch of polticians?

Someone to represent our best interests.
" I haven't done anything with the Republican Party..."
"There you go again..." starting your campaign with a lie. Even the rubes remember your repeated lies about the true source for funding your English Only referrendum campaign. What is it with you and referendums? First- the Titans. Second - English Only. Currently- Nashville's Priorities. Haven't you and Crisp been schooled enough by Cooley and Hester,et al, on the first two. Next lesson on Jan.19th- Kid.
By the way - nice picture of you on-line today in the Tennessean's 35 photos of the year, with you and Matt Collins' best gal-pal, Davidson County Republican Chairwoman Kathleen Starnes ( a genuinely nice, caring lady and animal lover) at your side at your English Only consolation pity party." Never met her before that night," I predict you will try to reply, but your lengthening nose will stop "your lying eyes" (Eagles) and lips from carrying on the charade. Nashville's heard it all before from you- Kid!
Even your trusted sidekick- Duval, knows you are nothing but a joke to your fellow Councilmembers. Evans and Jameson don't respect you- they just need your vote. Your other running buddies, Craddock and Gotto are gearing up for their own races for Criminal Court Clerk and against Ben West, so they pander to the camera along side you- Kid!
Try not to act so 'juvenile' in public. It conflicts with your childish face - Fellow Worker!

all politicians lie....that is a job requirement....at least he hasn't been caught shoplifting.....he has a right to speak his mind and be different than the other butt-kissers....someone is always standing around the corner with a knife to put in his back when he goes against the crowd....i personally like to see someone who dares to be different and not one of the sheep....
To the Commander... love it!
To border collie.... unless you take into account how Crafton fleeced the entire population of Davidson County with his lies about English Only. That is some real shoplifting....
He's a media whore.
in the end of the English only ...he is right..we shouldn't have to pay for interpreters as taxpayers....i would not go to russia and expect the citizens there to pay for someone to help me communicate....i would bring a friend to interpret , etc...it is not the taxpayers responsibility to proved interpreters for all languages...what if i began to study Cherokee and then walked in the courthouse demanding an interpreter to speak to me in Cherokee...and asking someone to pull out their checkbook and pay for it.....that just doesn't sound fair to me.......
who isn't a media whore now days???? the public seeks them out
The biggest plus/minus he has is that he is a conservative.
If you think your/our money is their money then no he is not the guy for you.
i just can't hate him...he tries to help the public...i truly believe that...i have watched him over the years and i know many don't like him but that means he is doing something right...if everyone loved him that would mean he is a conformist and is able to be bought off....like most... i feel the daggers coming but that is ok.......
they all lie and they are all crooks, mostly, in the end. some of the folks on the council are A LOT worse than him...i can think of one right now that speaks less and less these days but when he use to stand up and speak i would cringe and pray that someone would make him sit down before the stupidity became contagious...and no it wasn't eric LOL!
Good Lord, what is next, oh, I know, Diane Black is running for Rep. Gordon's old job. It is gettting hard for me to love TN with these jokers in command.
border collie is right about Crafton. He seems to have the public's best interest at heart and stands up for what he believes. Prod2 is so far up Dean's rear end he can't see the light of day and stays on here 24/7 for the MCC, trying to convience people to favor this ego boosting monument for Dean.
please give me a break. Are you just going to ignore that he said on more than one occasion that the EO initiative was funded by a majority of locals and we found it that was totally false? Are you just going to ignore this lie that costs taxpayers hundreds of thousands of dollars?
yes. i suppose it doesn't matter who funded it if it was conceived on the notion of doing a good thing for the community and to cut down costs of interpreters in a land that speaks English .....i wouldn't care where the money came from cause the powers that be do not care where the money for the CONVENTION CENTER is going to come from...taxpayers who for the most part will not get to use it! the majority of people in nashville would not expect to go to a foreign country and demand the citizens in that area to pay for an interpreter....I do believe that is true....at least i hope it is.. ...how much is providing an interpreter for every language in this town cost effective???? how much is that going to cost??? if i had had the $300,000 to give i would have paid for all of it myself.
Crafton is simply a glory whore. I can't believe we're still hearing from EO supporters after it's crushing defeat at the polls.
Anyone who's traveled around this country knows that the Spanish language is as much a part of our country's fabric as English is. Also, Border Collie, IF you travel abroad you'll realize that in most countries you don't need an interpreter because there is ALWAYS someone within arms reach that speaks English or Spanish. Maybe you should invest in Rosetta Stone, because we're all going to need to sharpen our Spanish skills as it has become America's second language.
I look at Crafton and I see Junior Samples.
I will never learn to speak spanish because i am not hispanic thank you. i don't care to learn the language. i suppose someone will pay for my interpreter when i need one in the next 20-30 years. why is it wrong to want to remain an English speaking American???
my kids will not learn Spanish either....someone will be more than happy to intrepret and pay for it...so why bother>??
i suppose you thought giving a drivers license to people who cannot read the caution, warning and other highway signs was a bright idea also!
Walter,
Let it go, it's not worth it......:)
I know Producer, but it's fun.
Hey Border Collie: ALTO! ALTO!
I'm sure your children will thank you for refusing to give them the tools neccessary to suceed in life. Times they ARE A changin. Like it OR NOT.
New Idea for a bumper sticker : My Border Collie is smarter than your uni-lingual kid.
LOL! alto is that similar to soprano?? LOL! I could give a rats a** what someone is saying to mein a foreign language...similar to the way Spanish speakers feel about us...they don't care to learn the language...those that do know iEnglsih sure forget it when the police get involved..suddenly they no habla english. no habla espanol is about all i know and that about ends the conversation....LOL!
Crafton es un tonto.
tonto...like in the lone ranger??? LOL!
Why do ya'll hate Nashville so much? Anytime anybody tries to do something to make this city more attractive to potential companies and employers you fight it tooth and nail. Don't you see how assbackwards that is? We are so lucky to live in a decent town with a relatively low crime rate, no state sales tax and a minute property tax. Idiots.
Well at least we've answered one question: Border Collie is as dumb as we thought she was.
Not hardly...never under estimate your opponent...that is dumb!

I love Nashville, Fun. But I'm not following the "low crime rate" thing. Every single night on the news there is a death or an armed robbery or shooting. We have crime; you are just not following it.
By the way, everyone who prays, my cat, Tuxedo, inadvertently got out. His dad, my husband, didn't latch the door. Tux is in the hospital and serious. If he makes it through tonight, we'll be blessed. It was not an animal. He was caught up in something that sort of chewed him up and bruised him a lot. Prayers are appreciated. And if D7 reads this, leave me alone. My cat is hurt and I''m asking animal lovers for prayers.
prayers for you kitty....hope he gets better!
sidneyames, my prayers are with you and your cat. My wife and I have 2 dogs and 2 cats all indoors. I hope and pray he has a full and speedy recovery.
Thanks border and Titan1; our 2 cats & 2 dogs are mainly indoors. The cats dominate the Florida room because of the scenery. Some how door didn't latch last night when hubby came in. Grizzley (other cat) seems OK; don't think he went out on the town with Tuxedo.
Tux is in vet hospital. I'll let you all know. I've never had a pet injured like this. I feel so guilty and sad. We are putting safety hooks on the doors.
Just look at the lefty comments, he don't say things that they agree with so they call him names.
They have totally flipped out and want to control everyone and everything even if it means doing illegal things and trampling on rights.
Barry had the authority to spend all that money and take control of business from who? Certainly not the Constitution which calls for limited government.
If they vote for closure on the health care bill they are voting for it even if later they vote against it because queen nancy can let 9 of them off the hook who are "threatened" to lose their seats. They only need 51 to ram it down our throats.
"Just look at the lefty comments, he don't say things that they agree with so they call him names".
WTF? I can only laugh.
sidneyames, how is Tuxedo this morning? I hope you have good news.
Titan1 it's 5 p.m. Tux has to stay at the animal hospital till monday; he is still very beat up and battered and hass to have pain meds. He needs to be calm and rest so we could not bring him home to our "zoo". sammie our schnauzer would probably try to chase him.
Thank you for asking. We are still puzzled and so is the doctor as to what happened. We'll probably never know, but I'll be extremely overprotective fromthis moment forward.
see you Titan; it's cold. I'm doing hot chocolate.
Talk about cold, we took the grandkids to the Charlie Brown ice show at opryland tonight, woww! 9 degrees! I hope all goes well with Tuxedo. One of our cats got out and was gone for two weeks. We finally trapped him and got him back inside. Long story but a miracle we got him back.
Yeah, we went to see Louise Mandrell's country Christmas; much warmer, but kids probably like Charlie Brown better.
Glad you got your cat back. I'm picking up Tux on Monday; wlll let you know.
Go Titans! Today!
Wow! Ti tans came through. It was sooooo close, but they did it.
Jeff Brousal for Davidson County Juvenile Court Clerk
My name is Jeff Brousal and I am running for the office of Juvenile Court Clerk in Nashville, Davidson County.
I am interested in this position because I feel that I can help the justice system to run more efficiently. I have been a CASA volunteer in both Seattle and in Nashville for several years. I have experience in the court system in Nashville and familiarity with the current staff through my CASA and personal interactions. I know the challenges facing both staff and customers of the Juvenile Court system. I feel I can bring the organizational skills, information sharing and courtesy required for this position.
I know this is a political position but I do not bring any political ambition to this election. I would like to conduct this office as a service to the people of Davidson County and my main focus will be to expedite the functions in my charge. I will deal with any difficulties that I encounter with a sense of knowledge and the understanding that the people I work for also have difficulties. I would start this process by addressing the systems in place using the local rules of the court. My familiarity with these rules and systems will make this process amenable to success. Also, my experience with children will continue to influence my role with a focus on mediation, family planning and services that strengthen the family.
