A bill to allow the advance-loan check industry to collect bad check fees, court costs and attorney fees for a failed check drew opposition among rank and file legislators who must vote on the bill Monday.
The legislative bill, SB 0287/HB 1288, passed the state Senate Feb. 26 by 22-8. The bill moved through the House this week, clearing the House Commerce Committee Tuesday 19-7 and being approved by House Calendar & Rules 14-8 Thursday.
The bill, promoted by the persuasive speaker pro tem, Lois DeBerry (D-Memphis) and most of the House leadership, was set for Monday night
