Dean adds another ex-Bredesen staffer

Monday, February 7, 2011 at 9:05pm

A former special assistant to Gov. Phil Bredesen is the newest member of Mayor Karl Dean’s administration, The City Paper has learned, and other staff changes at the mayor’s office are expected in the coming days.

According to multiple sources, Tam Gordon, Bredesen’s former special assistant for projects, has joined the Dean administration. Gordon, a former Nashville Banner reporter who served as press secretary for Bredesen during his tenure as mayor of Nashville, has also worked for the First Amendment Center at Vanderbilt University.

Mayor’s office spokeswoman Janel Lacy declined to provide details when asked about staff additions, although she acknowledged in an email that the mayor’s office has “some staff announcements coming.”

An aide to Dean confirmed Gordon’s appointment, adding that she would be working on special projects including a poverty initiative. The aide said Gordon was to start the job this week.

The new hire comes as another Bredesen alumnus, former Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation Commissioner Jim Fyke, recently joined Dean’s administration as a part-time employee in the Metro Finance Department.

The Mayor is filling jobs that weren't even described or vacanies
that didn't exist. Must be and sounds like campaign workers on the
taxpayer's dime/dollars!

Poverty initiative....That will be Nashville government, after we have to pay for all of Dean's "special" appointments. I love special jobs.

A Citizen
For once I agree with govskeptic. Sounds like campaign workers on my dime, the part-time job in the Department of Finance and a communications specialist in the Mayor's office.

How many really needed positions will go unfilled so this so this woman can have a cushy do-nothing job? She'll end up moving to Dean's campaign full time after drawing a few months salary from the taxpayers at $7,500 per.

Dean does what ever he want's to do. He does things because we let him. We would be better off with Bill Boner as our mayor. As deaf as Dean is to what people want, he will be re-elected, wait and see.
