Anderson, Doug 'Pete'
GIBSON - Doug "Pete" Anderson, 50, died July 27, 2003. He was preceded in death by his father, Douglas Raymond Anderson. Survivors include his wife, Willi Anderson; stepdaughter, Heidi Hall of Nashville; grandson, Alexander Hall of Nashville; brother, Raymond Anderson (Wilma) of LaGrange, Ga.; sister, Phala Palmer of Orange Park, Fla.; mother, Hazel Anderson of Savannah, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews. He received his engineering degree from Clemson University. Mr. Anderson worked at Tennessee Woolen Mill in Lebanon, Tenn., and most recently served as plant manager of the Jones Co. in Milan, Tenn. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today with Father John Henrick officiating. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Hudson, John Burton Sr.
SMYRNA - John Burton Hudson Sr., 85, died Aug. 2, 2003. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Hudson; sons, John B. (Deborah) Hudson Jr. of Murfreesboro and Richard (Karen) Hudson of Smyrna; sisters, Ruby Copeland of California and Ruth Langford of Winchester; grandchildren, Kimberly Rollins, Nicki Allison, Sara Hatcher, Rebecca Ware and Joseph, Charles and Alan Hudson; and four great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be conducted at 10 a.m. today at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Smyrna with Father Richard Gagnon officiating. Burial with full military rites will be in Roselawn Cemetery. Mr. Hudson was a member of St. Luke's Catholic Church and a veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II. He was a survivor of Pearl Harbor and served aboard the USS Helena. He retired as head electrician at The Executive office building in Washington and served under former Presidents Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon and Ford.
NASHVILLE - Frances Jett died Aug. 3, 2003, She was preceded in death by her sons, Morris, Michael Ray and Robert Lee Jett. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, John Jett; daughter, Shirley (Jeff) Smith; sons, Louis (Angie) Cornelius, Arthur (Paula) Jett, Harold (Sue) Jett and John W. (Sharon) Jett; 13 grandchildren; and sister, Elsie Campbell. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today with the Rev. Bill Miles officiating. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery.

NASHVILLE - Mary Helen England Mitchell, 78, died Aug. 3, 2003. Mrs. Mitchell was preceded in death by her parents, Hubert Lee and Ethel England. Survivors include her husband, Wallace Mitchell; daughters, Elizabeth Anne Mcleod of Nashville and Margaret Blanche Mitchell of Antioch; grandsons, Sandy Mitchell Mcleod of Nashville and Daniel Edward Mcleod of Murfreesboro; step-grandson, Carl Lee Mcleod of Only, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, James Lee England of Augusta, Ga. Mrs. Mitchell was a member of Glenwood Baptist Church. She worked and fought for handicapped rights, was a member of the PGA at Cloverbottom and served on Gov. Lamar Alexander's Ways and Means Committee for the handicapped. A funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. today. Nephews, Robert Hodges of Atlanta and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Rice, Burton Wilkerson
NASHVILLE - Burton Wilkerson Rice, 55, died Aug. 2, 2003, after a fight with lung cancer and subsequent bone metastases. He was the son of the late Edwin Ralph and Helen Wilkerson Rice and grandson of the late Herbert Burton and Hattie May Hewitt Wilkerson, all of Nashville. Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Judith Weylandt Rice; son, William Burton Rice of Nashville; daughter, Elizabeth (Dab) Marie Rice-West; grandsons, Dyllon Aaron Rice and Burton Dudley West of Franklin; brother, Nelson (Sally) Perry Rice; Marie Weylandt Robertson, Pam Logan, Stephen Weylandt (Candace), Robert Weylandt (Elizabeth); and many nieces and nephews. He was born in Nashville Dec. 1, 1947, and graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy as a National Merit Semi-Finalist. He attended Duke University and received his bachelor's degree from The Georgia Institute of Technology and his master's degree from New York University. He was a member of the honorary society Phi Kappa Phi. He began his career in investor communications as a securities analyst with Merrill Lynch & Co. in New York and subsequently relocated to Nashville to join J.C. Bradford & Co. in a similar capacity. In 1978 he joined Corporate Communications Inc. where he served as executive vice president and as a principal until his death. He was an active speaker for organizations such as The Nasdaq Stock Market and the New York Stock Exchange on investor relations and the evolution in corporate communications. He was a 42-year member of West End United Methodist Church and served in numerous positions including as lay leader and chairman of the finance committee. He was awarded the designation of chartered financial analyst in 1975 and was past president of the Nashville Society of Security Analysts. He was a member of the American Society of Corporate Secretaries and served on various committees of that organization. He was also a member of The Cumberland Club and The Golf Club of Tennessee. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at West End United Methodist Church with the Rev. Thomas J. Laney Jr. officiating. GOODLETTSVILLE - John Howard Sullivan, 65, died Aug. 3, 2003. He retired from Pirelli Tire Company after 32 years of service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lillie Ruth Sullivan. Survivors include his wife, Edna Mae Sullivan; son, John Howard (Charlene) Sullivan Jr.; daughter, Pamela (David) Eldridge; grandchildren, Justin, Austin, Troy, Anna Lauren and Lorene; father, Arthur Raymond Sullivan; stepmother, Marty Sullivan; sister, Helen (Jody) Stevens; and brother, Claude Raymond (Anne) Sullivan.
