District 1 school board hopefuls have been given a few more days to join the race, according to the Davidson County Election Commission.
George Thompson, the school board member who currently holds the seat, was slated to be the incumbent candidate in that race. But Thompson pulled his name from the ballot Thursday, so candidates are once again free to toss their hats in the ring.
The deadline for submitting necessary documents — including a petition and proof of high school graduation — is April 17 at noon. Candidates will then have until April 21 to remove their names, if they so choose, before officially being on the ballot at general elections this August.
Current candidates on the slate are Barry Barlow, Sharon Gentry and William Mason Jr. For more information, visit the Davidson County Election Commission's Web site at Nashville.gov/vote.
