A Williamson County assistant district attorney took crime fighting at the street level into his own hands Friday when he helped police chase down a suspected shoplifter at Cool Springs Galleria.

The attorney, Chris Vernon, was shopping with his family when he saw Dustin Hise, 25, of Spring Hill running from security at Macy’s allegedly with a stolen $71 bottle of cologne. Vernon took chase after Hise, using his cell phone to update Franklin police on the suspect’s location.

When police arrived they were able to take Hise into custody without incident. He was held in jail on shoplifting charges overnight in Williamson County before being transferred to Maury County on a felony probation violation and a simple possession warrant.

Hise is due in Williamson County Court on Oct. 7.

If ever there is a case for border patrol, it is when Maury County residents travel into Williamson County. Driving their filthy cars, tossing trash on the road, families packed into cars for a simple errand one person can handle. I guess that crappy mall in Columbia just isn't good enough for local shoplifting.
