Two East Nashville neighborhood associations will plant 14 American elm trees, along with six other versions, Saturday morning near the East Branch Public Library as part of a long-term landscape plan to enhance the historic area.
Members of Rediscover East!, Lockeland Spring Neighborhood Association and other participants are to meet at the library, 206 Gallatin Road, Saturday, Nov. 21 at 8:30 a.m.
Contributors will plant the unique trees, known as “the Historic Main Street Trees,” on the library’s property and across Gallatin Road at East Literature Magnet School. The six other trees are to go at various locations in East Nashville.
Organizers hope the American elms near Main Street create a high-arching canopy to frame the approach to East Library, producing shade above sidewalks for pedestrians, students and library patrons.
