Elderly man beaten to death in west Nashville
Metro police arrested Learice Thomas Jr., 30, on Sunday, and charged him in the beating death of an elderly west Nashville man. He allegedly attempted to set fire to the victim’s home.
A witness called Metro police at 4 a.m. Sunday to report that Thomas had broken several windows and entered the Earl Lee Patterson’s home on Batavia Street.
Police found Patterson beaten and gasping for breath in a bedroom. The 69-year-old was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died just before 7 a.m. Sunday.
A witness told police Thomas tried to set a garbage bag on fire on the front porch, and once inside police said an officer found a smoldering tire in the oven. Police said they found blood on Thomas’ shoes and clothing.
Thomas was charged with criminal homicide, and police expect to add charges of especially aggravated burglary and evidence tampering.

Guys, this stuff is merely going to escalate. We have an entire society now on welfare (unemployment benefits) and the psychological fall out is what you're now witnessing. Until things reverse and people find real employment (self worth) this is going to be mainstream. Pathetic.

If you kill somebody by stabbing him/her in the face 12 times, then so be it, it should be determined that you get the death penalty! Death by the means of which YOU KILLED YOUR VICTIM(S). You die by getting stabbed in the face 12 times!!!! If you killed more than one person in different ways, then you die in the most horrific way that you killed your victim! SIMPLE!! See how many people start thinking more about what they're doing then...except of course, the mentally ill...thanks to President Reagan that they are running around "LOOSE!" It's too bad that another president wouldn't repeal that! But this is the USA.......
