Election head is fired

Metro Administrator of Elections Michael McDonald was fired Thursday by a 3-2 vote of the Board of Elections.

Longtime election commission employee Ray Barrett has agreed to serve as interim administrator until a replacement can be found. An open search will be conducted.

McDonald's attorney, Larry Woods, said his client was not allowed to carry out his duties and anticipates legal action against the board.

McDonald and the board have been mired in numerous political battles during the past year.
