Two local universities were recently chosen to receive grants for their TRIO programs, which offer support to low-income, disabled and first-generation college students.
Fisk University and Tennessee State University were among 16 schools in the state that will receive grants totaling $3.5 million. Fisk received $190,000 and TSU $218,984 for the federally funded four-year program.
