A man hired to collect funds on behalf of Nashville’s Andrew Jackson Lodge of the Fraternal Order of Police was allegedly stealing the funds, WSMV-Channel 4 reports.
Thomas Andrew Johnson, of Franklin, was working as an independent contractor for Indiana-based Charitable Solutions when the alleged thefts took place. The company says he has since been fired.
The investigation began when a business owner became suspicious after he was told that only cash donations were accepted – no checks.
Most charities request, and the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Guide encourages, donations be made by check or money order payable to the charity. Donors should also request a receipt documenting their contribution.

If the Police and Fire units need to raise cash some
changes have got to be made for the general
public to get interested. Phone solitication by these
3rd parties that keep most of the money is too
ridiculous to even consider giving to. The dept's
need to factually tell what the funds are to be used
for and not the items we are expecting tax dollars
to pay for, I find Crime Stoppers to be the best for
my own donations!
