Metro police responding to a call of a car in a ditch Wednesday night in a wooded area at 50 Vaughn Road in Edwin Warner Park found the body of 51-year-old George McCabe.

The car was mostly hidden from view, and investigators believe McCabe, a one-time business partner at Loveless Cafe, may have been there for several days. The headlights of a passing vehicle reflected off of the rear lights of McCabe’s car around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday, The driver then called police.

So far police have not determined why McCabe’s vehicle left the road before hitting several trees. McCabe, of River Road Pike, was not wearing his seat belt, according to police.

The medical examiner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine whether a medical issue may have contributed to McCabe’s death. Police said there was no evidence of alcohol involvement at the scene.
