Former veteran schools' director Bill Wise dead at 75

Bill Wise, former director of Metro Nashville Public Schools, died Wednesday at the age of 75 following a bout with cancer.

Wise served Metro Schools as an assistant superintendent and deputy director before being named interim director and director of schools in 1997, a position he held until his retirement in 2001. He was a member of the district for 31 years. 


Wise’s contributions are recognized annually at the national level through the Bill Wise Award, presented by the Council of the Great City Schools to an outstanding education business manager who exemplifies professionalism, commitment, integrity and leadership.
