Fourth person charged in Green Hills mall beating

Thursday, March 12, 2009 at 1:00am

A fourth person has been charged in the beating of a man in a parking lot of The Mall at Green Hills.

Brittney Bannister, 19, was arrested by police early Wednesday at her Synder Avenue residence in west Nashville. She is charged with especially aggravated robbery in the March 3 attack on 62-year-old Robert DeMoss Jr., who remains in critical care at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The three others charged in the incident are convicted felon Bobby Tice Jr., 21, Catherine Mills and Johnathon Harris, both 18.

According to a witness' account, Tice allegedly beat DeMoss repeatedly with a baseball bat in the Dillard's parking while Bannister, Mills and Harris waited in a car, police said.

All four were taken into custody last Thursday. After further investigation, detectives decided to charge Bannister. She is being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.

Hang them high for all to see. This has to stop. It is time.

By: gatormikey on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Was this a random act or was DeMoss a target?

Treat them cruelly and without mercy and we can civilize them. Show them leniency and compassion and we can expect them to repeat their behavior. Simple Psychology 101.

OK, let's hold on here. The parole, Tice with the bat hitting DeMoss should get 10 years MINIMUM. The girls "waiting in the car" were just saps and probably didn't know the idiot was going to strike the man and beat him to death. My guess, was it wasn't planned and the two girls will get 5 years probation. If thje other guy held DeMoss down or participated, give him 10 years too. But let's not give all 4 10-20.

My guess is that they were waiting for him,or someone like him, 'cause otherwise, howcould they charge the one's waiting in thecar ?

By: rbyrd68 on 12/31/69 at 6:00

The 3 in the car should get charged the same as the one doing the beating. Who sits there and watches someone beat an old man?

I live in Green Hills. Please don't tell me Green Hills is turning into the next Hickory Hollow Mall. I loved the mall before the restaurants and upgrades because nobody would come to this mall, now it seems all the thugs are now migrating to this area. Maybe I should think about moving. Are there any gated communities in Nashville or surrounding areas with it's own mall and restaurants?

Just stare into that girl's eyes, see the pain. How people can get involved in such things is so sad. Look into her eyes. See it? She's a human being.

By: Dwilso31 on 12/31/69 at 6:00

I can look into her eyes and see nothing but contempt. She is angry because she was ratted out.

By: Communitycarl on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Birds of a feather flock together...they are all thugs. Heaven only knows what evil things they have already done without getting caught. Unfortunately, until severe penalties are uniformly administered for such crimes, there will be no effective deterents.

By: dargent7 on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Geez! Look into her eyes? What are you Bush looking into Puntin's eyes to figure out his soul level? That's a mug shot and she's scared. See Nick Nolte's mug shot or Heather Locklear's? Look at your driver license picture...is that really you? These two girls are "relunctant witnesses

By: ycartrob on 12/31/69 at 6:00

dargent, try a little harder. Just let go of your anger for 10 seconds and look into her eyes. You can do this.

By: Anna3 on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Crack heads!

By: dargent7 on 12/31/69 at 6:00

yc: Yeah, I've got the anger...you guys want what for these two girls...10 to 20 in Folsum?...for sitting in a car? You do the math. And what's this a new fad in Tenn..."Look into my eyes"?

By: ucan on 12/31/69 at 6:00

This is the reason there are a record number of people getting their concealed handgun permits.

By: ucan on 12/31/69 at 6:00

dargent,Don't act like these girls are innocent. They knew what was happening. For heaven sakes they sat in a car and watched a person getting beaten by a bat. For whatever reason they didn't intervene nor did they bother to call the police and "rat" on their friends. They are just as guilty as the person swinging the bat.

I went to school with this man. I'll pull the switch on these animals, all of them!

By: ACitizen on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Aw, hell, let's just string 'um all up right now. Maybe we can deter the thugs from coming into GH's if we kill a few of them right away. The average God-fearing, law-abidding person cannot understand what motivates one human being to viciously attack another while others simply watch it happen. Just as there's no explaination for the holocaust, there's no explaination for these types of seemingly random acts of violence.I hope this victim recovers, but it's not sounding too good with him still listed in critical condition. All I can say is be alert, pay attention to your surroundings, park in well lit and well traveled areas no matter what neighborhood, and keep your 38 or 45 handy.

By: dargent7 on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Geez! And I thought growing up in Detroit was tough. You people posting are maniacs.Tice...good-bye...give him 10-20. If the other guy held DeMoss down or assisted...5-10...the girls?...saps...5 years probation. There are worse animals out there and these two sat in a freekin' car.

By: Disgusted on 12/31/69 at 6:00

This is the second time for her in this situation. Don't feel sorry for her. She needs to pay for her actions.

By: Jokapsig on 12/31/69 at 6:00

Do the crime, pay with time and lots of it. This stuff happens everywhere people, not just in Antioch or N. Nashville. Tice should be lucky Mr. DeMoss wasn't packing heat. He'd be dead.
