Historic Germantown will be returning to its' traditional architectural roots when construction for a mixed-use building, housing apartments and commercial space, begins soon on 5th and Madison.
According to Scott Chambers, of Germantown Partners LLC, the idea is to fill the neighborhood with mixed uses and mixed opportunities so people can live and work and entertain without leaving the neighborhood.
"The whole idea to further developing our downtown areas is to try and free people up from automobile use [and that] is where we're headed," Chambers said. "And where I think the city, as a whole, is hoping to be in the future."
Chambers said introducing the apartments to the neighborhood will provide a different opportunity for someone interested in downtown living but who may not be able to purchase a home.
"We're trying to create a mix in the neighborhood that ranges from the apartment rental to the new home owners," Chamber said.
Germantown neighbors welcome the project saying they appreciate that it will provide a type of housing that hasn
