A Davidson County grand jury indicted 29-year-old Jontay Johns Friday in the strangling death of his girlfriend 32-year-old Jennifer Fitts.

Fitts’ aunt found her dead on Jan. 13 after not hearing from her for several days. Metro Nashville Police Department detectives believe a domestic dispute led to Fitts’ death.

Johns now faces a first-degree murder charge and is being held in lieu of a $600,000 bond.

Johns has been in a Davidson County jail since March 12 when police charged him on two counts of aggravated rape, one count of aggravated kidnapping and one count of aggravated assault for attacking his 23-year-old girlfriend at the time.
