With a permanent relocation-site apparently secured, Greyhound Lines’ bus terminal in the footprint of Nashville’s new convention center is set to move to a temporary location on Wednesday.
Greyhound’s existing bus terminal on Eighth Avenue had prevented work from beginning at the northwest corner of Music City Center’s 16-acre construction site.
Come Wednesday, the company will operate its Nashville terminal at the former Hansen Chrysler location at 1022 Charlotte Ave. Bus schedules and times will remain unchanged.
Greyhound secured the temporary bus terminal site in May. The move stalled because Greyhound and Metro Development Agency officials had failed to land a permanent site for the company’s long-term relocation.
According to sources, an announcement for Greyhound’s eventual move to property at Lafayette Street and Fifth Avenue is expected in the coming weeks.
Greyhound’s previous reluctance to agree on terms led MDHA attorneys in June to reinitiate a land condemnation suit against the company.
What's wrong with the location they just moved into? It's close to downtown, only a few blocks from the MTA terminal, it's next to a freeway, it has plenty of room.
When I worked for Greyhound in 06 and they started talking about a new Convention Center I told them then that they (Greyhound) would have to move but they did not wan't to here any thing about it from a new employee. I worked in the construction trade for 20yrs before going to work for the dog, and anyone with a little common sence and a knowledge of Nashville could see that the only place for the new Convention Center was where they are building it.
