Hadley Park traffic calming problematic for businesses

Storeowners and managers say the gridlock near Tennessee State University has gone from bad to worse since the new rules at Hadley Park went into effect.

They also say more young people loiter in the parking lots of the businesses now, preventing customers from entering.

Traffic jams frequently occur at the intersection of John Merritt Boulevard and 28th Avenue North. Because of excessive traffic, Metro Police decided to keep Hadley Park closed to traffic on Sundays, asserting the gridlock prevented residents from getting to their homes and emergency vehicles from getting to a nearby housing complex for the elderly.

Dale McMurty, store manager for Circle K, said his night manager has told him,
