Hillsboro student brings gun to school

A 17-year-old Hillsboro High School junior was arrested Monday afternoon for bringing a 9-mm handgun to school in his SUV, Metro Police said.

School Resource Officers received a tip that the student had a gun in his vehicle.

The student told the officers the gun was for recreational target practice. The gun, which was in a gym bag in the backseat of the vehicle, was not loaded and the student had no ammunition.

The student is charged at Juvenile Court with possessing a firearm on school grounds.
