The East Nashville attorney who helped fight District 5 Metro Councilwoman Pam Murray on a potential zoning change earlier this year is her likely challenger for the Nov. 12 special recall election.
Jamie Hollin was part of a contingency of neighbors who opposed a plan supported by Murray to turn a former junkyard property into an apartment complex building.
Hollin led an effort to garner enough signatures to recall Murray, and now plans to file a petition to run against her for her Council seat. Murray, a second-term Councilwoman, said she intends to fight for her seat.
In order to place their name on the November ballot to challenge Murray, a person resident must accumulate at least 25 signatures from fellow District 5 residents.
Hollin has been vocal in his criticisms of Murray, who he said is unresponsive to the community’s changing needs.
Murray said at a rally last week that those looking to recall her were the same individuals who ran against her in her first two victorious elections. Murray defeated neighborhood activist Sam McCullough in 2007 in a bitterly fought election.
The most prominent controversy surrounding Murray is her residency in Nashville, which Hollin and others actually dispute. Murray works as a social worker at a methadone clinic in Detroit, but she insists it is not a full-time job, and said last week she has lived in Nashville more than 20 years.
