The second day of the TSSAA tournament at MTSU's Murphy Center proved to be as unkind as the first for Nashville-area teams, as Hunters Lane was eliminated yesterday afternoon by Morristown West 44-38 in Class AAA quarterfinal play.
"We just didn't play to our potential, but we had a lot of heart out there today," stated a disappointed Lane coach Joanne Tribue. "We didn't contain their big girl, Kala Greene and she got a lot of rebounds inside that we should have." Greene finished with a game-high 10 boards in the winning effort.
Morristown West's junior guard Carrie Jones put her team on the scoreboard first with a 3-pointer after a scoreless first minute of play. Her outside shooting would prove to be the difference as she connected on four of six 3-point attempts.
Hunters Lane took its first and only lead 6-5, with three minutes to play in the first quarter on Tiffany Arnold's second bucket. The sophomore center would finish with 13 points and eight rebounds for the Lady Warriors.
