Impetus to empathize with world has hit home

I was still jet-lagged and sleep-deprived as I watched the World Trade Center crumble on national television. I had just returned from the World Conference Against Racism in Durban, South Africa, two days before. I feel a deep helplessness for those whose lives are forever transformed by the recent terrorist activities. And I am deeply troubled by the ramifications of this act and the misinformation that runs rampant through the media.
