The dressing room is empty. The weight room is quiet. But step inside the Nashville Kats training facility on Charlotte Avenue and the voice of coach Pat Sperduto is in midseason form as he talks players and football over the telephone.

The Kats have added several players in the offseason, but the biggest story has been the players who chose to stay in Nashville instead of exercising their rights as free agents under the new rules of the Arena Football League.

The 2000 Kats team finished runner-up to the Orlando Predators in the Arena Bowl. Returning leaders include wide receiver/linebacker Cory Fleming, wide receiver/defensive back Darryl Hammond, lineman James Baron, quarterback Andy Kelly and lineman Robert Gaddy.
