So what has it got to do with work? Why is it Labor Day?
Obviously, you probably know the labor unions pushed for it as a day to recognize American workers, but it was once far more interesting than stocking up on underwear at the local mall.
On Sept. 5, 1882, the first Labor Day parade was held. Twenty thousand workers marched in a parade up Broadway (in New York City, not Nashville).
