Landfill meeting draws large crowd

More than 250 people showed up at a community meeting Rep. Gary Moore (D-Nashville) held Thursday evening to listen to input for a proposed construction and demolition landfill on McCrory Lane.

Moore, the House sponsor of the legislation, called the meeting to decide whether he should support or defeat the bill, which would create an exception to the existing State Scenic Rivers Act. The act prohibits landfills within two miles on either side of designated areas along 13 scenic rivers, including the Scenic Harpeth River in Bellevue.

The bill before the legislature would specifically exempt a reclamation proposal to fill up a 17-acre rock quarry at 7848 McCrory Lane.

The developer, John I LLC, consists of four individuals
