Researchers need lightning bugs

Researchers at Analytical Luminescence Lab in Baltimore are seeking lightning bugs for research and will pay 36 cents a gram or $10.25 an ounce for the insects. The insects are used in food safety testing to detect contamination of bacteria in food. Collection points are Brentwood Family YMCA, 8207 Concord Road, 8:30-9 a.m. July 28, Bellevue Middle School, 655 Colice Jeanne Road, 10-10:30 a.m. July 28; and the YMCA, 411 Metroplex Dr. in Antioch, 10:30-11:15 a.m. Aug. 5.
