MCTC wins relay
Members of the Music City Track Club won the 3,200-meter relay at the USA Youth National Track Meet in Knoxville Thursday. The 17-18 year old team of Heather Trimiew, Buky Bamigboye (USN; Georgetown signee), Lynette Rives (Belmont signee) and Krishna Curry (USN) won with a time of 9:09. The meet is considered one of the more prestigious club meets in the nation.
Lipscomb signs recruit
The Lipscomb tennis team announced the signing of Texas prep star Andy Mizell, coach Dr. Lynn Griffith said Thursday. Mizell, from Richardson, was on the state championship team in 2003 and 2004. Additionally, Mizell was a member of the USTA Team Tennis champions in 2004. He was the 2002 MVP for Jesuit College Prep School.
Starter auction under way
The ebay.com auction for the right to wave the starter flag for the July 16 IRL race at Nashville Superspeedway is under way. The winner of the auction wins the honor of waving the green starter flag for the Firestone 200. Proceeds from the auction go entirely to United Way. The winning bidder also receives three grandstand tickets and admission to the pre-race hospitality area. The ebay.com auction item is No. 6542964095. Bidding on the auction reached $1,076 Thursday.
Belmont volleyball schedule announced
Belmont announced its 2005 volleyball schedule Thursday. Belmont will host the Atlantic Sun Championship for the first time ever in November. Additionally, BU will take part in five non-conference tournaments, including trips to SEC power Auburn and Big East member DePaul. The A-Sun championship is Nov. 18-19. The season opener is Aug. 26-27 at the Arkansas Invitational.
