Following an initial investigation, Metro police have decided not to charge a man in what was apparently the accidental shooting death of a 20-year-old woman Wednesday night.

Cody Hess, 21, told detectives that as he moved a 9-mm pistol in his bedroom, it accidentally fired shooting Jayme Wray in the upper body. The incident happened at 10:30 p.m. in a home at 6700 River Road Pike. Wray died at the scene.

Police said based on their investigation and statements taken by three others at the home during the incident, no one would be charged at this time.

Detectives will hand over the case file to the district attorney’s office, which will review the case and could press charges later.
